I've spent 25 years as a general contractor, which means I've spent 25 years watching guys on my crews waste money on tools that looked fine in a listing photo and fell apart on the third job — or overpay for a name-brand version of something a cheaper option would've done just as well. I started Uptime Tool Co. because I got tired of that gap. This isn't a big-box store trying to carry everything, and it isn't a marketplace where anyone can list anything. Every product here got picked because I've either used it myself, or I trust the reasoning behind why it belongs — the same way I'd vet a sub before putting them on a job.
I built the catalog around electrical and HVAC diagnostic tools first, because that's where I've spent the most time, and where picking the wrong gauge or meter actually costs you money and time on a call. From there, I started paying closer attention to two things happening right now in the trades: the data center boom, and the growth of solar. Both need technicians — electricians, HVAC and cooling techs, solar installers and maintenance crews — and both are full of specialized tools that are hard to find good, honest information about. So that's where this store is headed: gear for the people actually building and keeping running the infrastructure everyone else takes for granted.
I'm not trying to be Amazon, and I'm not trying to out-stock the big industrial suppliers. I'm trying to be the guy you'd call if you wanted a straight answer about which meter to buy — except now it's a website instead of a phone call.
